Point Doom 03:58
It seemed like centuries ago When the monks crossed the mountain tombs Malibu, El Camino and a sipping tea lemonade room We ponder all that we could lose In a theater dark The cross of Jesus sees it all His red blood’s on the bark Those beach-kids try to break their hearts Out at Point Doom Beach nation, blacker chords And a wild and restless moon That dumb green took all my friends You know they try to be so surf They’re acting like they don’t care Gonna ride it till it hurts We skate behind the studio Asphalt and slammed doors you know That west coast tried to drag me down Inside my cold and crazy head Can’t get no sleep in LA Gotta get back to my own bed Sitting in my room Think about our time at Point Doom Everything was so young Spent our summer howling at the moon Everything went black Doesn’t help to take a look back All alone in the dark Filling up the pieces of my heart Now I live the endless summer Always follow his son Red rocks to my left Pacific sand on my tongue Now my body is the Spirit’s home And I never have to be alone

Hollywood 02:23
Mansions, sleeping on the rocks Life gets lost, fame gets so stale Hollywood, Vine, gonna lose my mind So give me peace one last time Why are we losing our souls just for the sake of the world? Why are we losing our souls just for the sake of the world? Lookout, point up, see your name written in the stars But can’t see the ink on the wall The city, a cocktail, a tombstone, Alone in a colored crowd or an empty hallway Why are we losing our souls just for the sake of the world? Why are we losing our souls just for the sake of the world? Why are we losing our souls for this material world? Why are we losing our souls for this material world?

You call me a drama queen You yell it out from your one way street What’s the point of getting all worked up It doesn’t seem like something Jesus does It doesn’t seem like something Jesus did Turn the cheek forgive the hit Love the one you wanna hate High school feels so far away And all my old friends have gone away But I guess we all live in the same dumb town I brush your wrist in that strange lit crowd I brush your wrist in this stranger’s crowd But I won’t talk about you Behind your back, won’t stab it Blue islands in my head Safe thoughts from the books I’ve read This sin world keeps dragging me down I don’t wanna give up my crown Don’t make me give up my crown Ashes, beauty, the circle Closes for eternity Hold fast the Eucharist Lift up your forehead for a holy kiss Seeing light in a pool of dark Where every moment is a perfect spark This moment is a perfect spark Try to dream of saving Leave my fear of dying That’s what you did When I’m alone the mirror talks back Go to the mall for that human contact Bathroom tiles and swirling eyes Why are you tempting me with that lie Stop tempting me with your lie Drop the crumpled apple Walk out of the garden into the world

Swam through the spring time Bleeding all my shark blood Swam through scary waters I’m afraid of your shark love Spent the summer writing With coffee and your lightning Albert wakes at sunrise And there’s drama in these summer skies Sky Sky Sky Sky All my friends, they think I’m crazy all the time But oh my friend, you know you’re dancing on the line All these days, you know they’re gonna go away We’re modern kids, you know we’re near salvation’s day That day Acting out a play at night With beach hair and Super 8 My brother works a good job With a big smile and a heart for God Skin gets all freckly And He hears our temples calling Your eyes are full of fool’s gold From all the fiction that you told You told You told You still tell You still tell, tell All my friends, they think I’m crazy all the time But oh my friend, you know you’re dancing on the line All these days, you know they’re gonna go away We’re modern kids, you know we’re near salvation’s day That day

Sun sets, it’s a Friday night You smoke a cigarette and put on a leather jacket Walk fast like you’re the king of the world Like you could get any girl But baby maybe you can Film school and a bleeding mind You swim with monsters but you run out of time You’re a weekend hotshot You’re a weekend hotshot You’re a weekend hotshot And I’m a weekday fool Canyons and the punks on the beach They don’t know their maker, just drink slurpees Pick it out, what you’re gonna wear You know it better be 60’s You better tease up your hair Full moon, lips and teeth You fly on an interstate Catch it on your phone Blew your mind on stupid drugs No they were never enough You’ll always need something higher No they were never enough You’ll always need something higher You’re a weekend hotshot You’re a weekend hotshot You’re a weekend hotshot And I’m a weekday fool Weekends are fun when your young And it feels like the whole world’s on your side We will get older, the good times much slower And someday we will die Weekends are fun when your young And it feels like the whole world’s on your side But we will get older, the good times much slower And one day we will die

Mammoth Cave 03:21
Mammoth cave blew wind out its mouth Highway 65, south of the South Atlanta picked me up and brought me back down All your hip kids go to their little five-point town Green filtered light and a female deer Crazy on the dance floor after nine cups of beer I ran away from you to run into his arms His blood has covered all your passive harm Just gotta get me out Just gotta get me out Just gotta get me out of here Just gotta get me out Just gotta get me out You know you gotta get me out of here Crying at Phil’s house, I’m always gonna cry You ask me if I’m alright but sometimes I lie It’s a boy’s world for this lonely girl Kicked out of your club, call me your heartbreaker I read you my poems once, I kind of let you in No regret there, you know I’d do it all again Looking at the moon I wanna howl with you Sharing in the solitude cause that’s what these dogs do I wanted to marry my best friends But they didn’t wanna marry me So I get my love from Jesus While I’m sipping on green tea I wanted to marry my best friends But they didn’t wanna marry me So I get my love from Jesus While I’m sipping on green tea Sipping on green tea Just gotta get me out Just gotta get me out Just gotta get me out of here
7.
Lions 05:45
Our blue, deep conversations about poetry and philosophy Lightning storms and tropical prints fill up the gaps in me Visions of lions, travel guides and African plains Couldn’t sleep for nothing, staring at my hands feeling insane Think about dumb stuff, these girls wear American flags Sick of fake feelings, you know I’m so sick of being tagged Doesn’t matter where you are Brother I know we can see the same stars You’re on the far side of the world But I know we can see the same lions Wrote a play that summer, it was real I only changed the names Using only steno pads, drama baby you know that’s my game Skateboarding and heartbreak, give me all the love that’s tough Writing hymns and kneeling, now tell me I’m not spiritual enough Back from the Bahamas, hold his hand, the one who broke my heart Time is the great peacemaker, smoothing all the ripples, all the bad parts Doesn’t matter where you are Brother I know we can see the same stars You’re on the far side of the world But I know we can see the same lions The Spirit, oh, has a spirit of peace And the Spirit has a piece of me The Spirit, oh, has a spirit of peace And the Spirit has a piece of me The Spirit, oh, has a spirit of peace And the Spirit has a piece of me The Spirit, oh, has a spirit of peace And the Spirit has a piece of me The Spirit has a piece of me Seek the fire in the desert The big-hearted pillar in the sky See the split in the river Water swimming on both sides Seek the fire in the desert The big-hearted pillar in the sky See the split in the river Water swimming on both sides

Graduation came and went It’s the flash sitting in the pan Friends talk and come and go Fade away like my summer tan Now it’s cold and I’m alone Cutting bangs and spending cash I miss the lecture hall, the school of thought Highway driving and cutting class All that blood and stress and spit So I can say I have career dreams Yeah, I’ve got a vision for this game Run straight toward the light Run straight toward the real Divorce this American pyramid scheme Don’t leave the house for the crazy world But the crazy is inside of me Pour it out into a song It’s not real until it’s outside me Don’t let them take away your fight Put you in a box of what is true and what is not Stick to your guns put down that flag Shoot a bullet bent to strike their con See the city shattered like a globe The world all turning like a nervous top Jobs and cars don’t matter now In your afterglow This life’s a two-star show Draw the curtain Carry me, carry my load Remember rivers, buried jars I’m driving backwards to the West Arcade, gold mine, faded jeans Holy trees and white man’s conquest Starting over, starting fresh Engineering, picket fence Don’t let me lose myself, my soul For something changeable or material Draw a circle on my arm I’m getting closer to my Lord This world is shallow and it is shell A bored reflection A lost generation With no direction We can’t find a way to get back home
9.
Fable 04:21
Take the world put it on my wall Makes you feel big, makes me feel small All these forces on my throne Faith and doubt, I got my mind blown Shaving legs, blood on my shirt You kiss it out but it still hurts, hurts Sometimes I feel I shouldn’t be here at all Find the reason why I survived that fall Driving country roads and trails The stars so fake, that bluish comet tail Spending cash, the coffee’s gone Shoot the moon on the horizon Walk real slow you might stop time Nothing ends, it goes on forever Call you husband, call me wife Golden band and the blood of Christ Hear you breathing in your sleep, cool and soft Pray for your life, that it’s sweet We should go where we won’t be known A desert farm, raise our kids in a good home All my heroes are afraid to die Obsessed with death, now don’t you dare take your life This world’s a shadow of the next He’ll come with fire, not just with blackness Altars come and idols go Your broken screen, my broken halo We don’t know the day, the hour All together, we’re dancing this fault line
10.
Milk Glass 05:28
Every word lost its fervor Milk glass on the window sill You won’t let the light in Just sit around and fight for your fill Old friends fade into pieces Gone after their postmodern dreams Romance I’m glad turned to ash, fast Thank God for eternity St. Pete screams for a savior Art and beer you know they can’t redeem Hollow men with hollow chests Think life’s for living like a teen Gotta fight the fight Wipe the scales from the night And look upon the face of someone real Love you say is the end all cure But if it’s not pure, then it’s a joke Brand yourself with some holy X Not free drugs and sex, they ain’t got hope Take his blood for your own deep dark He removes the scars and you come clean Rid yourself of philosophies They won’t hold your hand and lead you to the land He’s coming home Last night in Ybor city Felt like the last night of the world All this drunken babble Purpose is a show and a girl But it's ok, we’re modern kids they said so You’re not a kid your 29 Stuck inside that high school dream Of cigarettes and screams Those things will only bleed you dry He said everything is nothing That sentence don’t have a start Like three is two and you are blue or karma Don’t look at the whole you’re just looking at parts This scene’s so hocus pocus Pleasure is a parlor trick If you don’t stand for something You know you’re bound to fall Your knees may be the best place of all Love they say is the end all cure But if it’s not pure then it’s a joke Brand yourself with some holy X Not free drugs and sex, they ain’t got hope Take his blood for your own deep dark He removes the scars and you come clean Rid yourself of philosophies They won’t hold your hand, lead you to the land He’s coming home Love they swear is a magic word But it’s a sad excuse to whore out your heart For anybody or anything who shares a spark Sparkling like a diamond ring It’s a pathetic little echo, it’s not the love you really need So take those blinders from your eyes And those bars from your mind And quit your walking of the line And be set free

These walls will eat me if I don’t get outside Seeing life through a window, a screen inside my mind Ok, I know, I’m acting like a child Re-reading Gatsby for the hundredth time We talk in circles and analyze our friends Bring up the album like it’s never gonna end You work so hard you could make somebody sick Circuit board sleeping, it’s your nervous tick Never know, never know, never know till you find it Never know, never know, never know till you find it Never know, never know, never know till you find it Never know, never know, never know till you find it Spring time, summer, can I press rewind Moving mountains, leave our past behind Spring time, summer, can I press rewind Moving mountains, leave our past behind I turned my back to the city where I grew Couldn't stand old money and I can’t afford the new You flip through Joyce like it was something in the Times Now you’re slinging cold ones Cause they could never compensate your mind Fresh out of college and nothing more to do Neurotic burn-out and I’m only 22 Unfinished novels and unpublished poems Action’s impossible when you’re bored and alone Stain out the carpet, screaming in the hall Think about the end, death according to Saint Paul First year of marriage was gone in a flash Spent in listless day dreaming and taking out the trash

Best Friend 05:04
I have dreams that scare me Probably won’t come true The highway every morning It’s the season’s view Don’t you try and find me I don’t wanna be found Don’t you say you know me I’m always up and down I spent 21 years to try and figure it, figure it out And you spent three long years just chasing me, chasing me down And I spent 21 years to try and figure it, figure it out And you spent three long years just chasing me, chasing me down Never felt hotter driving in my truck Your light goes on forever I guess you are my rabbit’s luck Forgive me my emotions I have to swim upstream Hold my hand this instant And take my blue, blue scream And I spent 21 years to try and figure it, figure it out And you spent three long years just chasing me, chasing me down And I spent 21 years to try and figure it, figure it out And you spent three long years just chasing me, chasing me down Good heart, dark heart Kind heart and cruel heart Bad things, last spring Circles never start Good heart, dark heart Kind heart and cruel heart Bad things, last spring Circles never start Good heart, dark heart Kind heart and cruel heart Bad things, last spring Circles never start Good heart, dark heart Kind heart and cruel heart Bad things, last spring Circles never start All you punks and posers Try and break my run All these triple visions Shoot me like a gun But you’re my shaking forest Always blow your wind You’re my college campus Major in my best friend

Afterglow 08:11
People search for clues to your existence A sun and a symbol Golden idols, dumb tea leaves The riddle answer’s not so tricky Your purpose, your meaning The riddle’s already been solved Move to the city, feel so small A drop in a puddle The crowded highway’s so cliché You leave for work and I start staring The wall and the whiteness Can’t force my fingers to write Bible studies, jokes and lies Boys sit in chairs My brother’s gone for a long time You’re always leaving me your afterglow You know that I’m that afterglow You’re always leaving me your afterglow You know that I’m your afterglow I worry about what may happen Some car crash or cancer I worry about who I may lose Start my day naming sorrows Impossible danger Send my mind out wandering a while The news tells me about that evil The drownings and killings The news tells me to be afraid Sleep with you, I still have nightmares Of fire and heaven All this sin must level out Give up my gun, fall on my sword again So this is like trusting Tell you I am gonna scream I want that ladder up to heaven Some night-timing wrestle with God I want that stairway up to space I want that ladder up to heaven Some night-timing wrestle with God I want that stairway up to space Thumbprint me deeper with your image I’m not some dirty mansion Thumbprint me deeper with your grace Clean up this broke down mansion Thumbprint me deeper with your image Cause I’m not some dirty mansion Thumbprint me deeper with your grace One day everything will cease One day we will have peace Built a bridge across divide Jealous rose risen on high One day everything will cease the groaning One day we will have peace, the King Built a bridge across divide to Heaven Jealous rose risen on high forever One day everything will cease the groaning One day we will have peace, the King Built a bridge across divide to Heaven Jealous rose risen on high forever

about

Afterglow, was a year in the making. It was self-produced in brief bursts between classes and work during their first year of marriage. Lyrically, Afterglow encapsulates their relationship, college, career pressure, generational failings, that dingy first apartment, grownup problems about money and insurance, isolation, fear, and hope. Afterglow is a mixed bag of genre jumping from punk pieces about beach kids and endless summers to vulnerable ballads about anxiety and this era. It is an intimate and musical time capsule.
